The Primary Prevention Approach with Youth

Prevention is about preventing intimate partner violence (IPV) before it begins. When we look at our communities, we see our intervention services empowering people who have already experienced violence. And this is a good thing.

However, if we want fewer people requiring intervention services, we need to start prevention work earlier. This means working with young people.

We seek to prevent youth from becoming victims or perpetrators of domestic violence by giving them the skills and knowledge to build healthy relationships. At the same time, our programs help communities create the positive changes to discourage violence and support everyone’s efforts to create healthy relationships.

Our work with young people of all ages is based on these fundamental goals.
